The mission of agricultural education is to prepare and support individuals for careers, build awareness and develop leadership for the food, fiber and natural resource system.
Agriculture is a major industry in Miami-Dade County. Opportunities for employment in agriscience and natural resources occupations are found at all levels including technical, managerial, and professional. The mission of agriscience and natural resources education is to prepare students for successful careers in the global agriculture, food, fiber and natural resources systems and for postsecondary education. Agriscience and natural resources education includes various combinations of subject matter and learning experiences in agriculture production, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural supplies/services, agricultural products processing, horticulture, and environmental resources.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to providing the necessary rigor in the agriscience and natural resources education curricula to ensure students a smooth transition into their chosen field and into postsecondary education.
Stated more specifically, agriscience and natural resources programs have the following major objectives:
To develop competencies needed by individuals engaged in or preparing to engage in agriscience and natural resources occupations. To develop, through exploratory experiences, an understanding of and an appreciation for the agriscience and natural resources industry and occupations. To develop the abilities in human relations, which are essential to success in agriscience occupations. To develop the abilities needed to exercise and follow effective leadership in fulfilling occupational, social, and civic responsibilities. Reinforcement of academic skills and instruction in employability skills appropriate for the job preparatory program is provided through classroom instruction and applied laboratory procedures and practices.
